Was John McCain's nomination acceptance speech a matter of confused priorities or merely confused? The image shown behind McCain for most of his speech was that of Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood, CA--a place that emphatically did not give permission for its image to be used.

Modern Drunkard Magazine's latest issue discusses lighter issues like "You know you're a drunk when...," types of scary bars you've been to, and correspondence from the Great American Beer Festival. However, they took time out to list some popular drinks and what they psychologically say about the imbiber. So what is your favorite alcoholic beverage, and what do you think it means? During my undergraduate experience I went with the University Chaplain, some medical personnel and the Holy Spirit to an unnamed 3rd World Presidential Republic. We did good work, delivering medical supplies, food, clothing and the Power of Christ to orphanages and hospitals that the evils of socialism, government interference and corruption had left behind in the dark ages. I returned home forever changed by these experiences.

Data-recovery recommendations?

My 500GB WD MyBook just died (loud-ass clicking, isn't recognized by Windows Vista or the WD diagnostic tool) and I'm a little clueless about which service or company to use to get the data off of it. Looking around, the prices vary significantly- is there a difference between say the $350 guys and the $1,800 guys? I definitely don't want to try to fix it myself because I don't want to make it worse (I lack fine motor skills plus I'm extremely dumb). Looking around on the Internet this seems to be a common issue with external HD's so I'm hoping recovering the data will be straightforward.
What should I look for when shopping around for services? Is this a simple enough problem that I could just pay a local guy under the table to do it? I'd really like to go local (Tucson, AZ) if possible to avoid shipping it back and forth, but some of the companies I've seen online have things like "no data, no fee" policies and flat rate pricing; which sound pretty sweet. Also celebrity testimonials!
And as luck would have it this is the one with not only all my music but also ALL my family/kid pics on it; so just saying fuck it and putting a couple .50 Beowulf rounds through it isn't an option.

My old roommate's mother is in the local military hospital, so he's staying with us and visiting her every day. He says every single TV in the place is tuned to Fox News, no matter where you go.

I don't smoke, I've never smoked (ok, that one time in college) and I never will smoke. Plus, I get headaches when I smell most second hand smoke. But even I have to say, c'mon already. That's just so '80s.
