Dmitri Medvedev has been inaugurated as Russia's President, leaving Vladimir Putin in the position of Prime Minister. No word yet on whether US President George Bush has seen into his soul.

I have a much harder time taking world leaders seriously when I know what their names mean.

Medvyedev = Медведев, which is from медвед, "bear." What it literally means, though, is "the one who knows where the honey is" (мёд, honey + вед, knowledge).
