It has recently come to light that a Swedish couple has, for the last two years, been raising their first child (referred to by the pseudonym "Pop" in the press coverage) without revealing its gender. While the child's parents obviously know, as well as a select few caregivers, the parents refuse to reveal the child's gender identity to friends, and have taken to dressing the child in clothes appropriate to both boys and girls, refer to it in gender neutral ways, and generally have attempted to let the child pick its own identity.

There are reasons why women aren't allowed to compete against men in most competitive sports.  They don't because of stuff like body mass, strength, speed, and endurance.  Thus, that's why there are separate professional leagues for basketball, golf, soccer, and tennis.  But this is the 21st century where a guy doesn't necessarily have to remain a guy all his life, and vice-versa for the ladies, of course.  So, what happens when you have a woman, who used to be a man (or at least had the "toolbox" that men customarily have), who wants to compete with the ladies at a sport at the professional level?  Should all the ladies the changeling is competing against accept her as a natural competitor or should they treat her as an unnatural threat to their earnings and status?

On Saturday, October 20th, US Representative (and son of two Indian-American immigrants) Robert Jindahl won the governorship of Louisiana, running on the ticket of the Republican Party.  With 53% of the vote, he won an outright victory that allows him to avoid having to compete in a Nov. 17th runoff election.

Wars are rarely won in one fell swoop.  They must be won battle by battle.  As it is in combat, so it goes in civil rights.  Recently, another battle was won in the battle to gain dignity and civil rights for transgendered people in the Big Apple.  The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) reached a settlement allowing a transgendered person to use the ladies room where she works.
